Presto Change-OH! (It's the House Pictures, Y'all!)

OK, so not so Presto, really, but there have been some "change-o" things happening here at the house.

We are FINALLY done with everything we had planned to do, so it's time for some photos!

So, here is the way we found the house when we moved in--
(These are photos from late winter, so it really isn't AS fair as it could be...)

I am a color person, (can you guess?) and so it took a minute to appreciate all that could be done to this white on white on white house.

Never loved the tiny shutters we started with.  Yucko color for me, too.
You'll notice in the "after" pics, the scalloped header is gone from the front window--SO GLAD.  You can also see the replacement  curtains in some of the close-ups.

So, nice house with lots of potential, right?  So, some paint, new shutters, trim up some trees, yadda, yadda, yadda, and (drum roll, please).....

Viola!

I was particularly interested in getting shutters that look like the could actually close on the windows and cover  them.  I am personally not a fan of puny shutters.  I also like panel shutters over louvers.

Charlie switched out the really heavy dark screen for one that is almost invisible.  I do wish I could make the frame green, too, but I am not sure how to make that happen.  We also switched out a tiny white light fixture for a black one (to go with the black shutters) with some visual weight to it.

The sycamore in front got some branches removed, to make things more visible, and to get a branch off the roof. and we also trimmed up the pine tree so we could walk under it and have better views of the neighborhood..  Oh, and you can barely see that our post lamp has the same light as the porch.  (lower right corner)
We did coleuses instead of flowers in the window boxes.  I love the hot pink colored ones, and that juicy lime green!  A sweet potato vine and some grass add some softness and a draping effect.  Lush and colorful!

 House number found on Etsy--

I am having some Blogger issues, but I am DETERMINED to get these posted today.  I hope all the buildup doesn't end up with a huge letdown.

I love what we ended up with, and we're looking forward to doing some fun, new landscaping next year.  The ONLY thing I didn't get to do is to paint the little hexagon window on the top of the house black.  Can't reach, can't rent a long enough ladder, and can't afford somebody with a cherry picker.  Oh well, it'll have to do as is, at least for now.  Not just good, it's good enough...

Oh, and we'd also like to get just a little bit more of that lime green in somewhere.  Any ideas?

So that's the house!  Hope you like it.
Thanks for stopping by!
All best-
Richard

  2. Wow, what a difference! It's now so warm and inviting. The kind of place I'd drive by and say "I'd really like to meet the creative people who live there!" Congratulations on completing it and doing such a beautiful job! Well worth all your effort.

  3. I was thinking absolutely stunning and when I went to type it, Michelle already had! But it is. It's beautiful. I love the colors and the plantings and especially the door. You did a wonderful job. Thanks so much for sharing.

  4. Wow!! I am impressed that the color made such a huge difference and it's not like you painted half the house turquoise or anything! Richard, it is just gorgeous! Stunning! The home looks so welcoming and loved! Excellent work! Hugs!

  5. Wow what a difference some colored paint makes! And some lovely accessories too! This is WONDERFUL Richard!
I love everything you did especially the shutters and the green accent color! I am not sure where you can add more of it? The only thing that came to mind was an adirondack chair or bench if you have a small patio area for it? But honestly I don't think you need it! How wonderful it must feel to have made your home so warm and inviting! I love it!

  6. I'm so excited for you! Beautiful job! I love the front door with the window, the shutters are gorgeous and look like they would actually close to save the glass. The trimming of the trees has made a wonderful difference and of course the colours are delicious. The numbers - Oh!... the numbers look terrific - very artsy looking, reminding me of a stencil or mask. As for more green, I have a couple of ideas. One is that you could paint above the door, on the front part of the roof (awning?), then you'd have a triangle hit of colour blocking (front door, facer over the door and window box). Two, a small seating arrangement of a couple of chairs and a table, so you can sit in the shade of the tree and enjoy the view. Three, I don't know if it's your cup of tea, but a picnic type table, built in sections around the tree (something I used to see a lot of, but haven't seen in a while) Black cloth with cedar chips, gravel, or many other things can be used under the table area, to save on trimming around it or moving it to cut. Whatever your choice, I know it will be perfect for you. Thanks so much for sharing and have a great day. :-)

  7. The change is so impressive! What a warm, cozy feel the house and yard has now. You did a wonderful job, Richard! That pop of green is amazing - talk about catching your eye! LOVE that! Hmmm....black paint on upper window....could you lay on the roof and lean over? Tee hee... LONG paintbrush? Maybe a nice bird feeder on a pole in the yard with the green for a touch more of the color? Don't think it needs much - BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

  9. Wowsers! What a difference, and great colors!
How much more lime green do you want?
What's the trim above the door, and the large living room window, going to the left?
It might be able to be painted.
Or just the trim of the portico thingy above the front door!?
    I'm all for color!
    You've done a great job!

  11. I know you can't see it, but in my most thespian attempt at dramatics, I am bowing profusely!! OMG...it's perfection. I would loved to have been a fly on the hypothetical 'wall' watching the neighbors watch you both. I only wonder what the protocol for proper length of time is before you start seeing more color added on other houses in the neighborhood. This is, to say the least, completely inspiring and I cannot even fathom how wonderful it will look all decorated at Christmas. If you could find lime green lights, that would be fun for the holidays. Otherwise I was thinking a lime green welcome mat or a splash of lime on the curtains peeping through. OHH, oh, oh and whoever mows, mowed diagonally....LOVE that!! LOL.
Your abode is truly a welcoming place and all of your hard work paid off. It's truly a place to call home.
    WELL DONE you two!
See now, I wouldn't have cut out louvers had I known...panels are way cooler!
    hugs,
    Lisa

  13. Thank you for all your hard work to post your pics..What a beautiful transformation. The lime green looks so sharp with the blue. What a beautiful home... great 'curb appeal' ...I like watching HGTV...hehe. what abt adding some lime green on the left side of living room window... something free standing-a large pot or a trellis thingy. I so enjoy your card creations and enjoy your writing conversations describing the process, what went right, what went wrong, etc.

  14. FABULOUS colour choices - a lime green & black welcome mat would POP! Maybe painting the diagonal boards atop the porch too ;)

  15. Oh my gosh! I love what you did with your house!!! I absolutely adore that green door!! I don't think I would ever have the guts to do this, but it really does look fabulous! As much as I like color, everything in our house is totally neutral. Funny how I'm a total chicken in that area, but it's true. Your flowers are gorgeous, too. Absolutely beautiful home!

  16. Oh yay, so glad I didn't miss this post! I was so curious what your changes were going to look like. What a huge improvement!! LOVE your chartreuse front door! Bold and beautiful. The pink Coleus is a bit hit at our house. My son picked it out for "his" garden and it's become one of our favorites because it's done so well and looks amazing!
