When I saw Tim Holtz's new Bird Crazy stamp set, I knew I HAD to have it, asap.
These images?
C'mon, you KNOW these things are gonna speak to me--
So, I went and I GOT it!
I made this--
This little bird (chick, maybe?) just screamed PETER LORRE to me...
Uh, THIS guy---
You know, from The Maltese Falcon and stuff--
Anyway, he always played the kind of guy who looked so stressed out that he hadn't slept in a week, so I went with the red eyed, sweaty-browed look on him.
Glossy Accents are my best friend here! I filled in this guy's eyes, to make them all glazed and watery. Tiny dots of GA then hit his brow, to give him that sweaty look.
As you can see, I am still having issues with my fillers getting hung up in my shaker. Whatever. They look dead all empty, anyway...
I added a sentiment from Simon Says Stamp, and I stamped some eggs on that wood grain piece behind my bird. There's also a silhouette of a bird in flight inside the shaker, just ever so faintly.
I do believe in carrying on with a theme, don'tcha know...
And inside--
Another SSS sentiment, and some feathers do the trick here. The feathers and the eggs on the outside are from a GinaK stamp set called Nesting.
I kind of dig the juxtaposition of the encouraging sentiments and bright colors with the frazzled, stressed-out looking bird. I imagine that the person who needs this cared could have some of that look about them...
I am IN LOVE with these bird images. Stay tuned for a SUPER irreverent series that makes me giggle like a twelve year old. Get ready to either laugh, or roll your eyes, BIG TIME!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
All Best-
Richard
I felt the same when I saw this set but mine are "in transit"!!! I LOVE what you've done with this little chap and I DO see the link between your bird and Peter Lorre!!!

There's something special in how all those colors and patterns on the front come together and make happy - and I love the feathers inside - but the bird??? Peter Lorre used to scare the poop out of me when I was young, so maybe that fits because this bird looks like he has to poop : ) Love the card though, just not sure I share your birdlove - and here I thought we liked all the same things : ) Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteSo enjoyable! Your use of glossy accents is nothing short of makeup. Voila László Löwenstein.
ReplyDeleteYes, Yes and Yes! Insert Meg Ryan's cafe scene in 'When Harry Met Sally' (here). That's HOW much I LOVE these images! You've done an A++ caliber justice to them. The eyes are magnificent, the resemblance is uncanny and your card is ADORABLE!
ReplyDeleteYour Peter Lorre bird is incredible! I loved these stamps when I saw them too! There expressions just make me smile! I look forward to seeing more cards using them! This first one is so wonderful! Love the sentiments and how you added the eggs and feathers!
ReplyDeleteAnother extraordinary card, Richard, this time brimming with both gorgeousness and amusement! What an amazing result, inside, too!! (And, YES, to Peter Creepy Lorre!) I just got this set and love the endless possibilities!! Hugs, Darnell
ReplyDeleteYou are right! He must be a direct descendant of the Lorre family! That set is very promising and after seeing your great first card, I can't wait for more! I hope we're talking about a daily series?!
ReplyDeleteOh man, this is AMAZING!! I laughed at your comparison of this bird to Peter Lorre.....definitely related!!! Everything about your card is just perfect....the coloring, the sentiments, the shaker....WOW!
ReplyDeleteOMG! That bird looks EXACTLY like that guy!! How uncanny! Or did they do that on purpose?? Anyway, your shaker card is just as cute as can be!! Love the colors and papers you used. My sequins used to get hung up too, but I started adding two layers of foam tape and that solved that! :)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness this is fabulous. Love love your comparison, hee hee!! TFS
ReplyDeleteThis BIRD CRAZY stamp set is one of my top favorites. I'm so glad you put up the picture of Peter Lorre for the younger generation who doesn't know him. I know of him because my dad is a movie fanatic and loves the black and white classics along with newer movies. A quote of Lorre's about himself, "All that anyone needs to imitate me is two soft-boiled eggs and a bedroom voice". Your color choice is great, and the patterns, albeit varied, go well together. Good job Mister.
ReplyDeleteOMG! He DOES look a bit like Peter Lorre! How funny! Love those shiny eyes! And who doesnt love a shaker - lovin gall that bling! I'd be dancing around the house shaking it saying "look what I got!!"
ReplyDeleteAwesome job on the bird card! It's great!
ReplyDeletelove those birds they so cute i paint them too
